Business Cluster Development (BCD) is a recognized leader in the creation of sector-focused business incubation and technology commercialization programs for universities, corporations, and communities. BCD’s core services include business incubation planning and development, technology development programs, innovation strategies, cluster-based economic development, and regional and international incubation approaches.
Recognizing that it is difficult to move incubation programs successfully from concept to reality, BCD was founded in 1993 to assist clients with the start-up and development of their business incubators. BCD takes a new and unique approach to incubation, which includes the practical application of cluster, or sector, theory to incubation to create successful, results-producing incubators.
In recent years, BCD has built upon its technology incubation experience and expanded to assist clients with technology innovation and commercialization, innovation strategies, cluster-based economic development, and regional and international incubation approaches. From technology road maps to business strategies, we have assisted our clients in developing creative approaches to foster innovation and bring new technology products to market. We develop strategies for venture acceleration, incubation programs in research parks, and corporate incubation. BCD has also developed sector-focused models for developing countries.
BCD Partners Jim Robbins and Carol Lauffer have real, working knowledge of what it takes to make an incubation program successful. They have experience not only in developing business incubators and technology commercialization programs, but also hands-on management experience with corporate, university and economic development-driven incubators and technology commercialization programs. The Partners regularly train incubator managers and developers on effective practices for business incubation, and present a twice-yearly, full-day course on successful incubator development to an international audience on behalf of the National Business Incubation Association.
